Bathing Beauties & Bedroom Bliss
What’s new in bedrooms and bathrooms for 2018
If there’s one room in the house where you need to create a calm ambience, it has got to be the bedroom – and Marks & Spencer’s new collection for spring and summer 2018 has some lovely neutral tones to help you do just that. Team neutral shades with natural textures for maximum effect and layer plain bedding with patterned cushions and sumptuous throws for a bedroom that you won’t want to stay away from. For an instantly luxurious feel, a few well-chosen cushions scattered around can make a world of difference between a bed that looks ‘made’ and one that looks ‘dressed’.
Also new and exclusive to M&S this season is the Eclipse Sleep-Ready Rolled Mattress, a supremely comfortable mattress that arrives rolled up so that it can easily be taken to any room in your home, not matter how narrow the staircase or how many twists and turns there are. Combining 1,500 pocketed mini springs, a three-layer support system, flexible foam and pressure-relieving memory foam to create a more supportive sleeping surface, the Eclipse Sleep Ready Rolled Mattress also includes a unique Acti-Pro anti-allergy stretch knit cover for a good night’s sleep.
The Fine Bedding Company is UK-based but uses the most technologically innovative ingredients from around the world. As committed ‘sleepologists’, the team really does seem to understand the different ways people sleep and the different bedding requirements we all have.
New for 2018 is their super-luxurious Smartdown filled duvet and pillow which uses recycled plastic bottles to generate a luxurious filling, uniquely spun and blown in such a way that it simulates the feel and warmth of natural down. The duvets are wrapped in a soft 280-thread count, sustainably-sourced cotton cover and then finished by hand.
The Fine Bedding Company also has a range of synthetic and natural feather and down-filled duvets, pillows and mattress toppers, each designed to deliver different attributes including extra breathability, additional anti-allergy technologies, washability and, best of all, they’re extra lightweight but still warm.
There is also a dedicated The Junior Fine Bedding Company range for babies and children which includes a washable duvet and washable pillow, waterproof mattress protectors and – essential for when you’re away from home – a travel cot liner.
When it comes to storage, nothing beats a top-quality wardrobe made to fit your bedroom. As the exclusive UK dealer for Team 7 Austrian furniture, Wharfside’s bedroom collection offers beautiful natural wood and glass wardrobes as well classic Danish designs. All Team 7 bedroom furniture is made from natural hardwoods from sustainably-managed forests, finished with natural herbal oil. Although extremely stable, the pieces can be easily dismantled when you move home so you can take them with you.
And finally...if you’re after a new bed and/or mattress, head down to And So To Bed on The Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells and have a chat with one of the sleep experts there. They’ll be able to give you personally tailored advice about the best frame and mattress for you, and there’s a big selection to choose from, with mattresses from quality brands like Visprung and Aireloom’s (their cooling mattresses are highly recommended), as well as And So To Bed’s own quality brand.
In the bathroom
For super-cool, boutique-hotel good looks in the bathroom, we love the new Black Grid Pattern Wetroom Panel from leading international shower designer and manufacturer, Roman, part of their Liber8 Range. It has 10mm thick glass and a height of 2000mm and features a matt black profile and a choice of square back to wall or ceiling bracing.
The Black Grid printed glass follows the industrial look trend that is very current in bathroom design – the print is a black etch colour fired into the glass during the toughening process – and there is also the option of clear glass with the matt black profile, which can be coordinated with brassware across the bathroom. Both the Black Grid and clear glass with matt black profiles come in different size options to fit in with both small and large bathroom spaces, and they can be paired with another wetroom panel to create a more enclosed showering area. Fit them to a Roman Low Level Shower Tray or straight to the floor using Roman’s Shield Wetroom System.
It can be tricky to find shutters and blinds for oddly-shaped bathroom windows, and that’s where something like the wooden arched window shutters by Apollo Blinds could come to the rescue. The window treatment comprises two panels in Rustic Grey stain with 63mm louvers, nickel hinges and tilt rod offset to the centre on both panels.
