El Mariachi Review

A Mexican fiesta!

A warm welcome is guaranteed at El Mariachi nestled just off the main high street in Tonbridge. I have to admit this isn’t the first time I have dined here – I’ve now been four times with different groups of friends for various occasions and each time we’ve been warmly welcomed and the ambience has lent itself to each very different celebration. This time I visited with my husband and the setting was perfect for us to enjoy a mid-week drink and meal in pleasant surroundings.

The drinks menu is diverse and exciting with a great offering of cocktails as well as a good selection of bottled beers. Being mid-week I opted for a nice chilled glass of prosecco, which was very fizzy and very cold, just as prosecco should be.

Every taste is catered for in the extensive choice of starters and tapas, including vegetarian. My husband decided on the spicy prawn and chorizo tapas and I the beef chilli sampler, a great way to enjoy a small bowl of chilli and tortillas if you would rather one of the other exciting offerings for your main meal. We both made an excellent choice and the dishes come highly recommended.

Again, there is a wide selection of main course options, catering for all palates and ranging from spicy, tasty, meaty, vegetarian, and seafood. We settled on the Mexican paella, a spicy slant on your average paella bursting to the brim with chicken, prawns and chorizio, while my husband went for the JD sirloin steak with a sauce so rich and sweet it complements the excellent cut of beef perfectly – again, both excellent choices and very sizeable portions.

A visit to El Mariachi comes highly recommended. Not only is the food fantastic with plenty of choice, the atmosphere is so authentic that it definitely gives you the feeling you’ve been whisked off to Mexico for a couple of hours to enjoy a fiesta!

We visited on a Thursday evening, which had a pleasant busy vibe, however it’s essential to book in advance for weekends. Families are also welcome. If however you’re more of a homebody, or are throwing a Mexican-themed dinner party and don’t want to cook, El Mariachi now offers a delivery service (www.one-delivery.co.uk) or a pre-ordering collection service if you prefer.
