Buoy and Oyster Review

At last a ray of sunshine has arrived at Margate seafront and it is called the Buoy and Oyster.

The owners, Nadine and Simon, have completely transformed this building into a haven of luxurious quality and comfort to match the culinary delight of choices on their menu, combined with a very tempting selection of cocktails.

The seafront entrance is up a level to give you the wonderful views and there is a lovely balcony aspect which, on summer days, would be absolutely fabulous to sit out on.

I noticed most of the ingredients are locally sourced. With the choice being too much of a dilemma we decided to relax, enjoy the view and the large comfy seats and sample a cocktail or two first.

We started with a Bay Breeze adorned with fresh pineapple and strawberries. This gently led us into choosing our starters, curried haddock fish cake, classic Scottish steamed mussels and we shared the fresh fried calamari.

After a good wholesome chat with Nadine we tried the Chambord Royale with plump fresh raspberries.

Difficult as it was I opted for the pan-fried wild halibut with saffron mashed potatoes, baby leeks, samphire and a crab bisque. This was cooked to perfection. The halibut was slightly crisp on the top and the bisque had large pieces of crab meat. All in all, the best fish dish I have had in a very long time!
