Budding Young Writers Honoured At Leeds Castle

Children’s author and TV presenter Clare Balding hosted a prestigious prize-giving ceremony in the library at Leeds Castle to honour the young winners of the Leeds Castle Big 900 Story Writing Challenge, which celebrates literacy in younger visitors.

All those shortlisted were invited with parents/carers to the event, where lead judge Clare announced the two winners and two highly commended runners-ups from each age category – 5-9 years and 10-13 years. Children from across the country entered incredible stories on the themes of Castles and Time Travel.

• Ella Davey, 12, was winner of the 10-13 years category with her ghostly tale, Nine-Hundred Years.
• Theo Nyland won the younger age category with his captivating story Thomas’ Time Travelling Adventure.
• The highly commended runners-up were Pawel Blawat, 13, with Digging for Adventure, and Charlotte Fromow-Dorman, 6, with The Magic Crayon Journey

The winner’s prizes included a signed copy of Clare’s new book, The Racehorse Who Learned To Dance, tickets to the Leeds Castle Fireworks Spectacular 2019, a private tour of the castle, a family stay at the Knight’s Glamping as well as a hamper of goodies.
